Hunting With The Keswick Hunt Club
Visitors are welcome to hunt with the permission of the Masters. Ideally, guests are accompanied by a sponsoring member who contacts the Masters for permission in advance of the meet.
Guests are encouraged to arrive at the meet at least 30 minutes before hounds move off. Before you mount, the Field Secretary will need your signed waiver and capping fee. Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or custodial adult. Capping during cubbing season (prior to Opening Meet in late October) is $100; during the regular season (end of October through March) capping is $100 during the week and $150 on Saturdays and Holidays. The cap for juniors is $15 and they must be accompanied in the field by a supervising adult.
Attire during cubbing season and on weekdays during the regular season is ratcatcher (tweed jacket, collared shirt or turtleneck, earth-tone breeches, black dress or brown field boots) and a protective helmet with chin harness. Saturday meets during the regular season are formal and a navy or black jacket with stock tie, wheat or canary breeches, black dress boots, and protective helmet are required.
Anyone over the age of 12 who fox hunts even one time is required to have a current Virginia hunting license. You do not need to complete the Mandatory Hunter Education if mounted foxhunting is the only type of hunting you do. As of summer 2016 the cost is $23 for ages 16-64, $8.50 for ages 12-15, and $9 for 65 and older.
Licenses are available online or by calling the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries at 1-866-721-6911. They may also be purchased at many sporting goods stores and Kmart.
